Jalan Kelab Golf is a famous or popular road for many horse racing punters. A road called Lorong Cheah Cheang Lim is just across of the Travelodge (former Heritage Hotel) at Jalan Kelab Golf.
Who is Cheah Cheang Lim ? His uncle is Foo Choo Choon aka Tin King. His mother is the sister of Foo Choo Choon. Like his uncle, he was another famous tin miner, rubber planter, philanthropist and politician in early 20th century.
Cheah made significant contribution to the society. One of the notable contribution was his involvement in the anti-opium movement.

Cheah donated the site of the Perak Chinese Maternity Hospital when it was founded in 1904. It was first located at Chamberlain Road and consisted of a six-bedded maternity hospital housed in a wooden bungalow. https://pcsh.com.my/pcsh/history/
Cheah had a close relationship with Dr. Wu Lien Teh. They involved in the social reformation activities since 1904. Both of them were very active in the anti-opium movement. The first Anti-Opium Conference of the Straits Settlements and Federated Malay States was held in Ipoh in 1907.
In 1927, following the advice from Dr. Wu, Cheah donated money to buy land in Beijing, China and built the Nanyang Club. The Nanyang Club, located at No. 29, Sui An Bo Hu Tong, Dong Dan, Dongcheng Qu, Beijing (北京东城区遂安伯胡同29号), provided convenient accommodation to overseas Chinese from Malaya and Singapore. In 1929, Dr. Wu was appointed as a trustee of the Nanyang Club by Cheah along with Wu Lai Shi, Robert Lim Kho Seng (eldest son of Lim Boon Keng in Singapore) and Lim Chong Eang. Interestingly, Cheah had never been in China throughout his life.
