25 Sept 2014: Areca Book’s new outlet November 10, 2014 – Posted in: Newsletters
Hello reader and welcome to
Areca Books @ The Star Pitt Street
Where books meet art, culture, heritage and more
The Star Pitt St, Penang’s new hub for culture, arts and heritage opened on 6 September 2014. Housed on the ground floor where the printing plant used to be is the new Areca Books outlet and The Penang Story gallery. A space for talks and exhibitions occupies the first floor while the Penang Philharmonic Orchestra and performance space takes up the second floor. The airy gallery space extends from the vibrantly historical and culture-rich Pitt Street on one side to Queen Street on the other. Heritage lovers will be treated to a media tour of Penang’s past and present via a modular design of backlit acrylic panels developed by Sue Hodges Productions – each panel features pictures and captions from The Penang Story project. The gallery also marks the start and end points for heritage walkabouts. This is where tired, parched visitors may refresh themselves with coffee.
Book lovers will be in for a feast with our wide selection of books. Genres ranging from cultural heritage, social history to arts and environment for all ages sit side by side with the bookstore’s handmade and organic specialty soaps. A limited selection of spartan and aesthetically designed tee shirts and eco-friendly tote bags are also available. For a limited period, purchases of RM250 worth of books or more in a single receipt entitles you to a free tote worth RM20.
Areca Books at The Star Pitt St is now open from 9am to 6m, Mondays to Sundays and public holidays.
