The national recognition accorded to this collection of royal letters befits its significance as one of the most important nineteenth century Malay primary sources of historical information on Terengganu Darul Iman that has survived. They are also rare examples of original Malay-Jawi royal correspondences that have been preserved intact and made available for public reference in Malaysia. This publication marks the first comprehensive attempt towards a proper examination of the collection, with the primary intention of making it more accessible to a wider audience. An overview of the collection, including a critical annotated transliteration and translation of its Malay-Jawi documents, can be found in Volume I. Volume II here provides a codicological description of the original 19th century Malay-Jawi manuscripts, i.e. fifty-five letters and one proclamation, followed by a line-by-line diplomatic transliteration of their Malay-Jawi text into Malay-Rumi (Romanised Malay). The codicological details and literal transliteration of the manuscript items are presented for the reference of specialists and philologists who may be interested in their calligraphic, textual and paratextual elements.
