Sun Yat-sen’s revolution and subsequent establishment of the Republic of China had a profound impact on the pursuit of independent nation-building and democratization in Asian countries especially Singapore, Malaysia, and other Southeast Asian countries. There are many overseas Chinese in various countries in Southeast Asia. From revolutions and royalist struggles to the replacement period of the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, overseas Chinese communities have been called upon by the politics of their motherland and have participated directly or indirectly in it. Over the past few decades, overseas Chinese have always come together to fight for the imperialist cause, revolution, and even the resistance against Japan. This collection of essays brings together experts and scholars from mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia to write essays on all aspects of Sun Yat-sen’s overseas career.
On the occasion of the anniversary Dr. Sun’s birthday, this book was released in conjunction with the “Sun Yat-sen Overseas: Photo Exhibition to Commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Birth of Dr. Sun Yat-sen.”
