About the Author and Illustrator
Jo Leen is a wildlife researcher, environmental educator, founder, and director at Langur Project Penang (LPP). She obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc Biological Sciences) from the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand, and is currently completing her Doctoral studies at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). Jo Leen leads her team of LPP to educate fellow Malaysians about the importance of coexisting with our wildlife residents. Jo leen has been recognized with several acknowledgments, including being the first Malaysian to be awarded the Environmental Educators 30 Under 30 in the year 2018, was a TEDxPetalingStreet Speaker in the year 2019, featured on BBC Earth twice for the documentary, ‘Primates’ in 2020, and the interview ‘My Place On Earth’ in 2021.
Ammi is an artist, illustrator and art teacher. She holds three different Diplomas: in Teachers and Trainers, Fine Art and Technology-Building. She has participated in numbers of exhibitions since 2000. She finds inspiration in creating artworks from daily experience and belief. Art has taught her to appreciate the beauty of creation, nature and diversity of cultures. She likes watercolour and enjoys using images to tell stories. Illustrated picture book “Anak Murid yang Memakai Kain Cawat”, “I Belong to the Forest”, “A seahorse story” etc.
What is Langur Project Penang (LPP)?
LPP is a community science working group under a registered NGO, Malaysian Primatological Society (MPS). LPP studies the ecology, behaviour and road ecology of dusky langurs (Trachypithecus obscurus) to develop a sustainable langur conservation plan in Penang, Malaysia. Founded in January 2016, LPP serves as a platform for environmental research and education for students and the local community. It aims to be the voice for the dusky langurs and other wildlife residents in Penang; LPP aspires to bridge the gap between wildlife and humans.
