Hans Christian Andersen (2 April 1805-4 August 1875) was a Danish author. He is best known for his fairy tales. Andersen’s fairy tales are enjoyed by both children and adults. Some of his most famous tales include The Little Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling, The Emperor’s New Clothes, The Little Match Girl and many more.
Andersen’s life was like a fairy tale. He was born into a poor family and his father died when he was only eleven. He didn’t enjoy school and didn’t know what he wanted to do. He tried singing, acting and writing. It was only when he was in his forties that his fairy tales were recognised. The Last Dream of the Old Oak Tree is a story of the seasons of life that ends on a note of hope and gratitude.
