Product Description

The Straits Shophouse: George Town & Malacca is a picturesque postcard book of shophouse paintings by Ipoh born artist, Koh Shim Luen. This small but compact book contains paintings of 16 distinct shophouses of the Straits Settlements which are pieces of art in themselves and hold precious memories that we share of Penang and Malacca.

The shophouse facades depicted by Koh Shim Luen express the cosmopolitan culture of George Town and Malacca. UNESCO has recognized the two Historic Cities of the Straits of Malacca as having created unique townscapes “without parallel anywhere in East and South Asia”. The architecture of these buildings featured in this book have served as the very vessel of our cultural life through the ages.
