The five prominent Hokkien Clan Surnames namely Cheah, Khoo, Lim, Tan and Yeoh in Penang originated from Sam Toh District, Hai Teng County of Fujian Province South Eastern China. The Hokkien Kongsi, Penang was established in 1856 by the five clans and has since become a mainstay in maintaining Chinese culture and heritage in Penang.


The present volume is the first-ever endeavor of Hokkien Kongsi Penang to present the story of the Penang Hokkiens in general and particularly the five prominent Kongsis.
